Earwax can build up when it becomes too dry, thick, or gets pushed deeper into the ear canal. To safely remove it at home, start by softening the wax with a few drops of warm olive oil, mineral oil, or over-the-counter ear drops. Let the drops sit for a few minutes, and repeat this once or twice a day until the wax loosens.
Once softened, you can gently rinse the ear with warm water using a rubber bulb syringe. Tilt your head to let the water flush the wax out naturally—never use force. Avoid using cotton swabs, as they push wax deeper and can cause blockages or injury. If you experience pain, discharge, or persistent blockage, it’s best to visit a professional for safe removal.
