Pimples inside or around the ear can be painful and annoying, especially when they develop in tight or hard-to-reach areas. These pimples form when pores or hair follicles in the ear canal or outer ear become clogged with oil, dead skin cells, or bacteria. Common causes include excessive earwax, dirty earbuds, frequent headphone use, or touching your ears with unwashed hands.
Treatment:
If you notice a pimple in or around your ear, avoid popping it — doing so can push bacteria deeper and cause infection. Instead, apply a warm compress for 10–15 minutes to reduce pain and swelling. You can also clean the area gently with an antiseptic or use over-the-counter acne creams that contain benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid (only on the outer ear, not inside the canal). If the pimple becomes large, painful, or filled with pus, consult a doctor or dermatologist for safe removal.
Prevention:
To prevent ear pimples, clean your ears regularly but gently — avoid inserting sharp objects like cotton swabs. Keep your earbuds, headphones, and phone screens clean. Wash your hair often, especially if it’s oily, and avoid heavy hair products that can clog pores around the ears. Maintaining good hygiene and keeping the ear area dry can greatly reduce the risk of future breakouts.
