“THIS WAS NEVER SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN ON LIVE TV!” No one — not the cast, not the audience, not even the poor camera guy — was ready for the absolute chaos Tim Conway và Sammy Davis Jr. unleashed on that pirate ship. What started as a simple high-seas sketch on The Carol Burnett Show exploded the second Sammy strutted in wearing that shredded-but-iconic pirate outfit.

Comedy legends Tim Conway, Sammy Davis Jr., and Harvey Korman present a rollicking adventure on the high seas in a stellar episode of The Carol Burnett Show. The setting is a laborious pirate ship where the rowers are under a Pirate Captain, played by Harvey Korman.

Enter Sammy Davis Jr., introducing a whirlwind of hilarity as Bruce Fenwick, the newest recruit on board. His theatrical entrance in a ragged but posh outfit and his flamboyant accent and demeanor instantly make people laugh.

The interaction between Davis Jr. and Conway is humorous from the get-go, particularly when Bruce critiques Tim’s attire, & then remarks cheekily about his window seat while rowing the ship. Davis Jr.’s character (Bruce) doesn’t stop there; his flamboyant quips keep coming even when Korman reappears, sternly demanding they row properly.

However, Bruce humorously comments on Korman’s command, treating the situation as if they are part of an upscale restaurant rather than a pirate ship. He even attempts to obtain water for the thirsty Conway resulting in a comedic mishap, leading to more laughter.

When Conway’s character expresses his need for food and rest, Bruce (Sammy) seizes the moment to protest the working conditions. In a hilarious twist, he presents demands as if he’s negotiating a corporate union deal, requesting meals, nap times, and even light snacks. But when Korman questions, the new recruit comically throws Conway under the bus.

The chaos and hilarity escalate when Bruce attempts to free Conway from his shackles as he is hungry. However, he shoots a hole in the ship, making water gush like a fountain. Sammy (Bruce) laughs onstage as Tim tries to cover the blunder they made with Captain Korman.

The new recruit quickly shifts plans, suggesting they catch fish for dinner. However, the hilarious scene reaches its zenith when Tim loses his oar after catching a shark on the fishing line, causing an uproar of laughter.

Finally, when Captain Korman discovers the missing oar, Bruce points at Tim, again shifting blame. However, as Korman takes Tim away, the plot turns wild. The new recruit decides to take a stand, only for Tim. However, Tim labels him the troublemaker and gets back to his work.
